We are delighted to invite you to the first webinar in the new ‘Future of Finance in CEE’ virtual series. In our first webinar, we will look at the impact of Brexit on finance transactions in Central and Eastern Europe, with a particular focus on the future of English law. Is it still a suitable choice of law for cross-border finance transactions? What are the benefits? Are there any specific obligations for English law-governed transactions following Brexit?

The Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the United Kingdom and the EU, which was signed towards the end of last year, does not unfortunately answer all of these questions. Our hosts, Eszter Torok, an English law-qualified senior counsel based in Budapest, and Kushal Gandhi, a London-based finance partner, will be joined by a panel of CEE-based lawyers who will look at the benefits of using English law in your finance transactions today and will also look at some of the local specifics regarding court enforcement in this region. The panel will discuss the following topics:

• The impact of Brexit on finance transactions in CEE and the outlook for the next months
• English law as a comfortable choice of law for finance transactions in CEE
• Contractual obligations and jurisdiction-specific clauses to consider
• Brexit-related restrictions on the ability to provide (banking) services
• The provision of guarantees and hedging services post-Brexit
• Local enforcement and arbitration options in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia
